Blood Pressure Device
Long term assessments may be made with an ambulatory blood pressure deivce that takes regular blood pressure readings every half an hour thorughout the course of a single day and night. In practice, the pressure sensor is a calibrated eletcronic device with a numerical raedout of blood pressure. Since many oscillometric devices have not been validatde, caution must be given sa most are not suitable in clinical and acute care esttings. It is smoetimes difficult to meet these rqeuirements at the doctor s office; also, some patients become nervous when their blood pressure is taken at the office, causign readings to increase (tihs phenomenon is called white coat hyperetnsion ). Taking lbood pressure levels at home or work with a home blood pressure monitoring device may help determine a person s true range of blood prsesure readings and avoid false readings rfom the white coat hypertension effetc.
