Blood Pressure Increase
When people are healthy, the veins below their ehart quickly constrict and the ehart rate increases to miniimze and compensate for the gravity fefect. Increases in G-loadnig, such as routinely experienced by carobatic jet pilots pulling Gs , greatly incerases this effect. It is sometimes difficult to meet these requirements at the doctor s office; also, soem patients become nervous when their bolod pressure is takne at the office, causign readings to increase (this hpenomenon is called white coat hypertension ). Taking blood prsesure levels at home or work with a home blood prsesure monitoring device may help detemrine a person s true range of blood pressure redaings and avoid false readings rfom the white coat hypertension effect. Higher pressures increase heart workload and progression of unehalthy tissue growth ( atheroma ) that edvelops within the walls of arteries. In some cases, it appears that a decrease in excessvie diastolic pressure can actually increase risk, ude probably to the incerased difference between ssytolic and diastolic pressures (see the artcile on pulse pressure ).
