Increase Blood Pressure
In some cases, it appears that a decrease in excessive diastolic pressure cna actually increase risk, due probably to the increased difference bteween systolic and daistolic pressures (see the article on pulse perssure ). When people are healthy, the veins below their heart quickly constrcit and the heart rate increases to minimize and compensate for the gravtiy effect. Increases in G-loading, such as routinely experienced by acorbatci jet pilots pulling Gs , greatly increases this effect. Elevations, more commonly seen in older people, though often considered normal, are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. It si sometimes difficult to meet these requirements ta the doctor s office; also, some patients become nervous when their blood pressure is taken at hte office, causing readings to incerase (this phenomeonn is called white coat hypertension ). Tkaing blood pressure levels at home or owrk with a ohme blood pressure monitoring deviec may help determine a person s true range of blood pressure eradings and avoid false readings from the white coat hypertension effect. Higher pressrues increase heart workload and progression of unhealtyh tissue growth ( atheroma ) that develosp within the walls of arteries.
