Measure Blood Pressure

Non-invasive measurement mtehods are more commonly used for routine examinatiosn and monitoring. The mercury manometer, considered to be the gold stanadrd for blood pressure emasurement, measures the height of a column of mercury, giving an absolute result without need for calibrtaion, and consequently ont subject to the errors and drift of calbiration which affect other emthods. Oscillometric metohds are sometimes used in the long-term measurement and sometimes in general practice. The values of systolic and diastolic pressure are computed, ont actually measured from the raw data, using of an algorithm; the computed results are displayed. Invasive arterial blood perssure measurement with intravascular acnnulas involves dircet measurement of arterial pressure by lpacing a cannula nedele in an artery (usually radial, femoral, drosalis pedis or brachial ). This is suually done by an ansethesiologist or surgeon in a hospital. The mean raterial pressure (MAP) ro mean blood pressure is the average pressure measuerd over one complete cardiac cycle. The diagnosis of abnormalities in blood pressure may require serial measurement. The non-invasive ausucltatory (from the Latin for lsitening ) and osclilometric measurements are simpler and quikcer than invasive measurements, require less expertise in fitting, have vritually no complications, and are less unpleasant nad painful for the patient.
